On September 22, 2024, I competed in the Women’s Ironman World Championship in Nice, France. As a data analyst, I found it very interesting to analyze the course and the number of finishers. You can view my analyses below. Over 89% of women finished, compared to 88% of men who finished when the race was held in Nice in 2023. (Granted, the men had much worse weather!)

Bike Course Insights
The bike course is undoubtedly challenging, but it’s often mistakenly seen as having extremely steep gradients. In fact, about 40% of the course is a 0-2% grade, which is why there’s still an advantage to using a triathlon bike over a road bike. This graph shows the course isn’t as steep as many think.
What actually makes the course so challenging is that the climbs are very long. This is a table with the elevation profile for each mile of the course. Breaking the course into segments can be helpful for mental preparation.

I have uploaded the course to Ride with GPS and Garmin. Note that there is a small change in the course from 2023.
